Your RV power cord is the life line between you and all the electricity you need for a fun camping trip. They can be neglected and cause you problems so we found some helpful tips to share. Taking care of your RV power cords will help to assure a memorable camping trip that is memorable in a good way, not in a troublesome way.
Inspect – Check the cord each time you use it and each time you unhook it to pack it away. Do this when it is disconnected. Make sure there are no small cuts or cracks in the cord and that you cannot see the inside wiring. These cords spend a lot of time out in the weather and can take a beating. Be sure that yours is in top condition. Also inspect the plug. Make sure the prongs aren’t bent or damaged. If they are slightly bent you can gently pull them back into place with a pair of pliers.
Clean – If the prongs of the plug are corroded you can sand them lightly with fine grit sand paper or steel wool. The cord should be free of dirt or grease when you pack it away.
Always turn the breaker off before you plug or unplug the cord. Be sure to pull on the plug and not the cord so you don’t weaken the connection between the two or expose any wiring.
Taking care of your power cords is part of a good maintenance plan. We hope your camping is everything you wanted it to be and we look forward to seeing you.
